à. Having accessed the image editing page (see below), you can begin describing the image (in Russian and in English).

b. Enter the title of the image*, keywords** and additional information (if any) into the respective fields. Descriptions should be entered in both Russian and English languages. If you are unable to enter descriptions in Russian, please contact our manager.

c. After filling all the required fields PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CLICK "Save changes"!!!

* The title should clearly describe the image.

** Please note: Keywords should describe everything captured on the picture as fully as possible. Do not forget about the ‘simple’ words. For example, if you image depicts an African elephant, you should enter the following keywords: African elephant, elephant, African, Africa. However, please do not overuse keywords! Going back to the hypothetical elephant image, keywords such as desert, palm tree, safari should NEVER be used if those are irrelevant to the image. Our clients are never happy when they enter “palm tree” as a keyword and the search engine finds everything but a palm tree!

Key words should be separated by a comma! Please never use dots when entering keywords.

STEP 2: GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION After you have saved all your changes, you will see four panes on the top of the page:

GEO LIST

STOCK LIST

COLLECTIONS

PORTFOLIO

The first two panes are the catalogs that you should assign your image to.

à. Click on the first pane "GEO List". A geographic catalog is displayed. Tick the regions where your photo was taken. For example, the image of a sea gull (see above) was taken in Primorye in the Far East State Marine Reserve (FESMR). In this case the following boxes should be ticked:

GEOGRAPHY Show/Hide

Australia and Oceania (77) >>

Asia (1336) >>

Antarctica (44) >>

Africa (121) >>

Middle East (341) >>

Europe (800) >>

Russia (7199) >>

      Far East (840)

              Primorye (53)

                           FESMR (45)

Please note: If your geographical location(s) are not in our catalog, please contact the website administrator. We will add new locations promptly.

b. Please remember that sub-panes open simply by clicking +! DO NOT CLICK ON THE NAME OF THE ENTIRE REGION! If you click on the region name, the system will display all photographs taken in this region.

STEP 3: STOCK LIST, or SUBJECT CATALOG

Please describe your image by ticking appropriate categories, just like you did in a geographic catalog.

Please note: If your image categories are not in our catalog, please contact the website administrator. We will add new categories promptly.

STEP 4: MULTIPLE IMAGE EDITING

Multiple Image Editing function allows you to edit several images (with the same keywords, titles and locations) at a time. You will likely use it when describing several shots of the same object/setting or a chronological series of images. This function is a real time-saver. Here is how to use it:

à. Click "My images" to access the page with your previews.

b. Tick the images to be edited.

c. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Multiple Image Editing" button.

d. See STEP 1.

Tips on multiple image editing:

  1. When you change the title of the image in a Multiple Image Editing mode, the new TITLE will replace the old one.
  2. When you add new keywords in a Multiple Image Editing mode, previously entered keywords do not disSappear! New ones are simply added to the old ones.
  3. When you change geographic location in a Multiple Image Editing mode, old location information is automatically deleted.
  4. When you add data to the subject catalog, all previously entered data remain in the database.

We would suggest that you do not overuse the Multiple Image Editing function. Please use it only when relevant – for editing a series of shots of the same object or setting.

STEP 5 (The highest pitch of excellence): COLLECTIONS AND PORTFOLIOS

Every author is unique, and thus we suggest that you create your own portfolio to include the best of your works.

If you have unique material that you would like to present as a separate collection, we will be happy to support this idea. Image collection is a great material for a journal article, a poster collection, a calendar, or even a photo book. In other words, an image collection is a complete ‘product’. It will be great if you send a text description or a report along with the image collection (in most cases a summary of the report will be posted on the website).

Now, what do we need to create a portfolio or an image collection? Please follow these steps:

à. Take a look at portfolios and collections already posted on our website.

Sample portfolio: http://www.geophoto.ru/?action=logout&subaction=portfolio&id=&p=0&sgeo=&sobje=&searchtext=

Sample collection:

http://www.geophoto.ru/?action=collections

b. Inform our manager of your wish to create a portfolio/collection. Do not forget to include the title of your collection and the main theme.

c. We will create a blank portfolio/collection for you, to where you’ll be able to add your images.

d. To add your images, simply follow these steps:

1. Go to "My images" page.

2 Tick the images you wish to add to your portfolio/collection.

3. Click "Multiple Image Editing" button (Note: you can also add images individually).

4. Select "Portfolios"/"Collections".

5. Find the title of your portfolio/collection in the list and select it.

6. Press "Save"!

e. You’ll be able to access and edit your portfolio/collection at any time.

Please remember: the better you describe your works, the higher the odds are that our clients find and purchase them!

If you are unable to edit your works within a given timeframe (7 days since the images have been uploaded to www.geophoto.ru), please be sure to inform us by e-mail eletskaya@geophoto.ru, geophoto@ok.ru or call us at 8 (495) 648-47-01.

If you have not met the deadline and have not informed us of the reasons, we reserve the right to stop displaying your works on our website.

Sincerely yours,
